The winter season is already more than halfway through and another July in the history books. What a fantastic day’s racing it was. Our crowd (almost 20 people) had a great time. Congratulations to Fieldspring racing and Dean and his team for a very well deserved win. It’s also great to have yet another July winner from the Cape.

Our two runners tried hard but they just weren’t good enough on the day. Diamond Quest made our day with a good win in the listed S.A Airways 2200. Rose and Nigel Le Heup had flown out from England for the race and were absolutely ecstatic. He has matured nicely now and looks promising as a stayer. We are aiming him at the Gold Cup as we feel he might have a realistic chance in the big one next month.

Our team up here are doing really nicely and they all seem to be running well. We have just brought up the 2 year old filly Sun Classique after her good win at Kenilworth a fortnight ago. We are going to nominate her for the Grade 1 2 year old fillies race over 1600m on Champions Day at Clairwood on the  29th July. Floatyourboat has had an arthroscopy to remove a knee chip and is doing well. He is convalescing up at Summerveld and will hopefully be back to best for the summer season.

This week Blue Heather runs in the listed Queen Palm Handicap for staying fillies over 2600m. She should run well as we think she will enjoy the distance. Next weekend sees the running of the Mercury Sprint 1200m WFA and Laredo Gold will once again take his chances.

We have been using the services of Jeff Lloyd quite often this season as he has been riding work for us most mornings together with Bernard who is going to Macau again for 3 months in August. Hopefully we will be able to get Jeff to come down here for the Summer season.

Until then I'll march on...

July Day

Another July Day has come and gone and one often forgets the adrenalin and intensity that associates itself with such an event. A great day was had by all and for those of you that fancied the favourites on the day, bar one or two, you were sure to reap the rewards.

We were proud to have returned the July trophy back to the Cape and our warmest congratulations must go to the team of Dean Kannemeyer and Fieldspring Racing for a well deserved win on their ever-improving 3 year old Eye Of The Tiger who won in fine style. What a feeling and I'm sure you will savor it for years to come.

We managed to attract a bit of the limelight ourselves by capturing the SAA 2200 Listed race with Diamond Quest for proud owners Rose and Nigel Leheup who were over the moon and sure made their trip from England worth while. Incedently, Rose was fortunate enough to find a paper clip on the floor shortly before the race and could not believe her luck when her superstition was found to come to light. “Who says they don’t believe in fallacies”. The son of Saumerez looks to be improving into a really classy sort and will be aimed at the Gold Cup at the end of the season with Jeff Lloyd opting to pilot once again.

The website also enjoyed a good July day with a few handy best bets including Diamond Quest at 5/1 as well as catching the pick 6 twice paying a handy R18 381.80.

As with the July our opening special has come and gone and as of the 1st July our new pricing structure for members is as follows (Owners of course are free):
