Happy Spring

A Few weeks ago the first foals were born, and as they say in the racing game, when you start to see the Lilly’s around, you know the first foals of the season are on their way. So to all our breeders we wish you a prosperous season ahead.

Speaking of Babies, our new crop of two year olds are starting to arrive slowly but surely.

The first two Horses to arrive on Wednesday were Grand Model and When Winter Comes. The foremost being our purchase for Dr John Steytler from the recent National 2YO Sale in JHB. Grand Model is a Goldmark filly out of the Model Man mare Lady Model. When Winter Comes was bred by Marsh Shirtliff and is a Wolfhound colt out of Almarzac (Al Mufti).

We would like to take this opportunity to welcome a few new owners to our yard namely Mr Danie Raademan who has purchased shares in both Tellittome and Saqhwiti; Mr Jonathan Harris who is leasing a half share in the Saumarez colt Bill of Rights; Victory Gaming on their exciting Kabool filly, Angel Cake, which incidently may still be won in their current competition; Master presenter Mr Andrew Bonn who joins Marsh Shirtliff in purchasing Put and Collect, and Mr Daren Viljoen who has a share in the Fanatic Dane colt, Steely Dane, who will be arriving shortly.

Recently Gold Circle put together a transformation programme in the Western Cape where they have a syndicate of 20 people that will own 2 horses bought by Gold Circle at the Grandwest yearling sale and their training fees subsidised. The racing public were asked to submit their applications to join the programme. They then had an evening with a lucky draw to decide who the lucky 20 owners would be and then voted as to who they would like to train their horses. They chose Ourselves and Basil Marcus and we look forward to meeting them all on visits to our yard and hopefully having a few winners for them in the coming years.

A warm welcome to you all!

As you would have read on the website, there is an opportunity to win a racehorse with our new, up market sports betting bar in Milnerton, Victory Gaming. Mike has selected a Kabool filly by the name of Angel Cake for our future clientele and she has recently arrived.

The last of our Durban Horses have arrived from their recent holiday at Arc-En-Ciel Stud under the care of Craig Carey. We are all pleased to have Dunford, African Appeal, Laredo Gold and Inner City back at home with us. Needless to say they all appear to be a little chubbier than the last time we saw them but I’m sure it won’t be long before they get stuck into some hard work to begin their preparations for the Cape Features.

Miss Polly has left us as she has been sold and will be going up to Natal. The latest news on Diamond Quest is that he will be teaming up with Mike De Kock to contest the up and coming Dubai season and has already left to begin his first stage of quarantine before going off to Mauritius. We wish Mike and the Leheup’s the very best in their Endeavors. Rumor has it that Rose has her eye on the Melbourne Cup as well, I guess time will tell.

Last Sunday we took the trip out to Wilgebosdfrift Stud to view the parading of Mary Slacks new Stallions. Lundy’s Liability, Right Approach and Tiger Ridge were all there to strutt their stuff including our current joint Horse of the year, and record breaking stakes earner Illha Da Vitoria.

When asking Mike’s opinion on the stallions he said “They are all very well bred and all look like Smashing individuals, however Right Approach tended to stand out for me as he is a handsome, good looking son of Machiavellian and looks like he will produce a classic type of horse, and I think they are 3 great acquisitions to the South African breeding industry”

Our Gold Cup jockey Jeff Lloyd, has informed us he will be commuting on a regular basis from his hometown of Durban to ride for us in the up and coming summer season and we are really pleased that Mike and Jeff will be teaming up once again. Other news from our Jock’s is that Bernard Fayd’Herbe will be leaving for Macau and local riders Heinz Runge and Paul Devlin are both off to take up positions in Dubai.

Finally our payment gateway on our website will be inserted on Friday, which will make life a lot easier for our members. We have had a bit of a delay with the banks on the admin side and subsequently have had to change our banking details in the process. The new banking details for our tipping members can be found at the bottom of our Newsletter.

Next month our much awaited SMS facility will be in operation and possibly a MMS facility which will allow punters to download a 6 page spread including tips, pictures, comments and much more, straight from their cell phone.

We have two more advertisers joining us this month. Brian Roux from BBR bloodstock, who has been shipping our champions around the world for many years has been kind enough to co sponsor our free tip of the week, and Equestria SA have joined us in our sponsors column. Please visit them at www.equestria.co.za

Talk in the yard has been really positive of late, and we feel we have assembled our strongest string of Horses for a long time so we are looking forward to an exciting year.

We would love to hear from you, so If you have any new suggestions for our website please email us at .

Till next month

  Joke of the Month

Kindergartner to Grade One

A group of kindergartners were trying very hard to become accustomed to

the first grade. The biggest hurdle they faced was that the teacher
insisted on NO baby talk!

"You need to use 'Big People' words," she was always reminding them.

She asked Chris what he had done over the weekend?

"I went to visit my Nana."

"No, you went to visit your GRANDMOTHER. Use 'Big People' words!"

She then asked Mitchell what he had done.

"I took a ride on a choo-choo."

She said "No, you took a ride on a TRAIN. You must remember to use 'Big

People' words."

She then asked little Alec what he had done?

"I read a book," he replied.

"That's WONDERFUL!" the teacher said. "What book did you read?"

Alec thought real hard about it, then puffed out his chest with great

pride, and said, "Winnie the SHIT."
