All Set for July Jet’s

One needs to page a long way back in the History books to find two siblings gala along side each other in the Durban July, but Mike is confident the brother/ sister combo are on track with their preparations. Mike also saddles a third Jet Master stalwart in Floatyourboat, but before they grapple the main event, there’s some testing features for these Jet’s to contest.

Topping the boards is the current Met Champion Pocket Power . After a fast finishing 4th in the Astrapak, all eyes will be fixed on the favourite going into the Gold Challenge, where he bids to avenge his narrow defeat from Successful Bidder last year. As we are all well aware from his past, his feet have never been his strong point, but Mike has managed to keep this problem relatively at bay for some time now. Last Monday he pulled a shoe in training and went foot sore for two days which caused a bit of a stir in the camp. Greg Dabbs, our Cape farrier, was flown up to Durban where he fitted him with concussion pads which seemed to have done the trick and fortunately he is sound again. He will wear his pads until the day of the July, as he did last year for the Met.

Testament to his well being, on Thursday he delivered a cracking good gallop for his Jockey Bernard who reported that it’s the best he has put up to date.

After his Drill Hall run and his gallop last week he is now pretty fit and it’s just a matter of ticking him over until the Gold Challenge. He is unfortunately drawn badly again, but we are obviously expecting a big run from him here in this weight for age event over a mile, which was one of our key targets for him this season.

River Jetez  signaled her well being by winning the Astrapak in a hard earned finish with Catmandoo. Her consistency speaks for itself only having run out of the places once in her 15 starts. She should come into the July carrying between 50 and a half, and 52 kilos and must be considered a lively contender. Anthony Delpech has been engaged to ride the Filly and she will in all likelihood not run in the Tibouchina stakes as previously planned, so the next time she meet’s the track will be on the official July breeze up.

Floatyourboat  has had two runs in Durban so far and appeared to need his run in the Astrapak 1900. He moved up to a winning position and looked a likely winner under top weight but failed to run on. At present he is set to shoulder 54.5Kg with a merit of 111 to Pocket Powers 118, however if they decide to compress the weights he may carry a little more but nevertheless will come in sensibly weighted for the big race. He has stayed sound after his last two starts which is very encouraging but he does have point a to prove to his followers, and we are hoping for a stronger effort in the Gold Challenge where he is drawn well at stall two. As usual his regular pilot, Karl Neisius gets the July ride.

Joke of the Month

02/06/2008
Author : Tammi Eastland

Two Englishmen- businessmen in London - were sitting  down for a break in  their

soon-to be new store. As yet, the store wasn't  ready, with only a  few shelves set up.

One said to the other, 'I bet any minute now some thick tourist is going  to walk by,

put his face to the window and ask what  we're selling.'

No sooner were the words out of his mouth when, sure enough, a curious  Scottsman

walked to the window, had a peek, and in a broad Scottish  accent asked

What are you selling here?

One of the men replied sarcastically,  'We're selling ars_-holes.'

Without skipping a beat, the Scotsman said,

'You are doing well ... Only two left!'

Englishmen  - God bless them
