02/04/2007 Author : Mark Bass Book your vehicle online - click here  Sale news and Horses for sale     We purchased 4 yearlings at the Grand West Sale in Sandringham, a Jetmaster colt (lot 91) out of London Dolly, who looks to be very fast for Marsh Shirtliff and also a Jetmaster filly (lot 223) out of Gem Queen – her first foal. Lot 37, a Doowaley colt out of Stunning Star bought on spec and a lovely Casey Tibbs filly (lot 108) out of Northern Broadway was purchased for Charlie Mckenzie.   Mike Bass was very active as usual at the Equimark Vintage sale where he purchased 9 horses including the half brother to Sun Classique (Galileo), Saxon St Kerling who was top priced at R1,2 Million. Mike also purchased the second highest yearling on the sale from Beaumont Stud – A windrush colt by the name of Facing Federer. He was one of the best looking colts on the sale. He will hopefully have a story behind him as Carol Bass had asked Barbara Sheppard to name one of her foals after Roger Federer’s book “Facing Federer” and he was the one they chose. The chances of us buying him were already good for a start and the fact that he was a good looking chap made it that much easier.   The sale itself was a tremendous success with all figures up on last years Vintage. The proceeds for the sale totaled R20 916 500.00 from the 171 lots sold. 26 Lots were not sold and 14 were withdrawn taking the sale average to R122 318.71.     Mike Bass Racing's purchases, comments and shares for sale:     Havana Nights - R75 000 Shares available - 0% Indigo Magic out of Brighton Rock by Flaming Rock Lot 23 Bay Filly Arc-En-Ciel Stud   Indigo Magic, Half sister to Jet Danza (6wins, Gr 3) Caesour Rocks (6 wins) from the family of What A Beauty. The first purchase of the day, Small but very athletic filly that stands over ground with a beautiful rein. Will be expected to be quick and early type. Saxon St Kurling – R1,2 Million Shares available – 0% Galileo out of Elfenjer (AUS) by Last Tycoon Lot 57 Bay Colt D Cohen & Sons   Half brother to Sun Classique (5wins,2 GR1) by Galileo. Very immature, rangy individual that has tremendous scope for improvement. Has the physical attributes and pedigree to develop into a classic type colt.        Nelson An Napolean – R300 000 Shares Available – 33,3% @ R100 000 + vat (click here to purchase ) Saumarez out of First Lady by Elliodor Lot 69 Bay Colt D Cohen & Sons   Very High quality scopy colt by Saumarez out of a 6 time winning Elliodor mare, First Lady from the family of Durban July winner Super Quality. According to Mike one of the most impressive colts on the sale with Classic potential.      No Picture Available      Facing Federer – R800 000 Shares Available – perhaps 33%  Windrush  out of Floral Power by Dominion Royale Lot 72 Bay Colt Beaumont Stud   A lovely, big imposing colt by second season Sire Windrush. He is from a strong Argentinean black type family and out of a full sister to Pinero and Miltonian. He looks every inch a race horse. A lovely mover with a wonderful temperament. He was bought for Marsh Shirtliff who might be interested in having a partner for a third share.       Castle Rock – R55 000 Shares available – 0% Doowaley out of Happy Birthday by Over The Air Lot 83 Bay Colt D Cohen & Sons      A medium sized Doowaley colt from the Party Time family. Should sprint early and then get ground later on.  Current Comments:   Has started cantering on the light tracks. Has trimmed down nicely and looks like she might be quite early. 7/12 Her worked has been stepped up but she is coughing at the moment so we have had to ease up again. 5/1 She has been coughing for a long time, but seems to have stopped the last week now. She is back in work on the light tracks and we can start pushing her a little more now. 14/02/07 She has improved at home and is able to hold her own with a working companion now.
