The Ekaterinburg State Academic Opera, one of the oldest and most recognised theatres in Russia, performs arias and extracts from Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin, and Iolanta, his lyric opera in one act. Sung in Russian with English subtitles.

NATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY
9 August
On this day in 1956, 20 000 women marched against the pass laws imposed by the Apartheid government. The legislation required African persons to carry a document on them to ‘prove’ that they were allowed to enter a ‘white area’. Their protest song, "You strike a woman, you strike a rock" has come to represent women's courage and strength in South Africa.
